Now that’s all out of the way, we can show you this week’s picture. We did consider showing a funny picture of the Pope just to be topical, but a quick google image search simply reveals lots of Emporer Palpatine look-a-like jokes and baby-kissing – the latter of which would lead to no end of tasteless innuendo on this site. That said, this one‘s quite funny.

In the end, we decided against it. No state visits for the Pope on this site. Stephen Hawking on the other hand… :

What should be the caption for this picture?

Last week, we showed you this probably photoshopped picture of the former president of the USA apparently munching on a kitten. Something about this bizarre image must have inspired you, because we got a huge range of responses.

However, all must fail for one to win… and the winner is Jooiliaj, who sent us this caption:

The kitten’s saying: ‘I thought you said you’d eat your hat if a black man became US president.’

Let’s leave talking kittens and hungry presidents now, and move on to this week’s picture.

Last week, we showed you this picture and asked you to come up with a caption for it. We had less responses than usual, but still managed to pick out a winner from the pile.

The prize for best caption to last week’s picture goes to Andrew Mills, who provided this:

This week’s picture involves a slightly more famous human being with another anonymous animal. What should be the caption for the picture below?

Last week we showed you this photograph of what appears to be the home of a cyberman in a leafy suburb.

Amidst the accusations of cyberman-dressing-denialism aimed at Hayley Stevens, who graciously supplied the photo, there were some good answers this week.

Lard supplied this disconcertingly real parody of the kinds of letters paranormal investigators must hate receiving:

“hi my name is Angela and im sending yuou this photo becuase i like yoiur site and your alwats have good ghost pictures this picture was takem by my mother as a picture of some nice greenry and plants she thought was nice but in the window is a ghost figure that wasnot there when the picture was taken.The house where the picture was taken was where some one may have died once and there was no one in the house wehn the picture was took. you can see the ghost is wearing old silver cloths like they did in olded times and a old hat or something.”

Spelling mistakes most likely intended.

Lard came very close to winning, but the verisimilitude of the woo in ‘Angela”s letter unfortunately just made us depressed, so we had to cheer ourselves up with a more upbeat caption (never let it be said that we’re fickle).

In the end, we decided to hand the trophy to Lucas Randall for this entry:

Last week we showed you this picture and asked you to come up with a caption for it. Because, you know, it’s a caption competition. After hours and hours – alright, minutes – of laborious and painstaking thought we at MSS HQ finally agreed upon a winner in the form of this simple yet elegant entry:

What should be the caption for the picture below?

Last week, we showed you this picture and asked you to come up with a suitable caption. As always we had lots of great answers, and once again we were tempted to have joint winners. Unfortunately, if we have too many joint winners there’s the possibility you may all become complacent and slack in your efforts, so we’re going to go with a solo winner this week in aid of furthering your competitive instincts. Think of it as helping evolution along.

So what caption won last week’s competition? That would be this one:

“Chris Atkins and Johnny Howorth’s next production went slightly beyond the realms of credibility.”

Tom W is the scribe behind this little gem. Chris Atkins and Johnny Howorth are the filmmakers behind the recent hoax footage of people supposedly murdering urban foxes. So funny and topical!

Special mentions go to Lucas Randall for this caption, and Simon Nurse for this one. We think they should get together and form a crime-fighting duo called ‘Randall and Nurse’. No? Well, suit yourselves…

Anyway, it’s that time again. No foxes this week, just two strange men. They are otherwise known as Mike Hall, president of the MSS, and Colin Harris, who is the person currently typing that name in the third person and trying not to feel too weird about it.
